Insurance Terminology

Who does the policy cover?

The INSURED are:

"The Australian Speleological Federation Inc., State Bodies and Councils, Individual Members and Provisional organisations, Clubs but not Associates, together with their respective committees , sub-committees, officers, officials, members (however defined) Landowners, Leaseholders and the Crown."

All Corporate (Full) Members are required to maintain their Membership List on the Club Website. This is used to form the basis of who is covered.

Associates are invited to approach the Treasurer of the federation for inclusion.

What activities does the insurance cover?

The business of the Federation is deemed to be:
Principally sporting Association participating in the following activities:

  • Cave, Karst & Mine,

  • Research, Exploration & Surveying and Recreation,

  • Equipment Testing, Publishing and Photography,

  • Caving (inclusive: Diving)

  • together with training and practice for the above activities

  • and all activities associated therewith,

  • Property Owners and / or Occupiers, Leaseholders and / or Tenants, Trustees of property.

What are we insured for?

Legal Liability to the Public in respect of Personal injury (including Death) and/or Property Damage as a result of an occurrence and happening in conncection with the Insured's Business or Products.

What are the indemnity limits?

  • Public Liability any one occurrence/unlimited during the period of Insurance - $10million

  • Products Liabilty any one occurrence and in the aggregate during the period of insurance - $10million

  • Sub-Limit in respect of property in the care custody and control of the insured - $20,000

What is the excess to be paid in the event of a claim?

Each and every claim property damage only - $1,000

Where am I covered?

Worldwide excluding USA and Canada however including visits thereto by Directors and Employees of the Insured.

What are the exclusions?

Please refer to the policy for detailed exclusions which include:

  • Member to Member liability

  • Participation Risk

  • Visitors
