ASF Caving InsuranceUpdated 17 December 2001 ASF Insurance Convenor DISCLAIMER: The contents of this web page are for information ONLY and where any question arises the official insurance policy of the Federation prevails BackgroundDuring early June, 2001 the Federation's Broker received a letter from the insurer advising that they were not offering a renewal to the Federation's Combined Insurances Policy. The Broker advised the ASF Executive and commenced a search for replacement insurance. However, the Broker was unable to locate any insurer's who were on their books willing to make an offer. June 2001 had passed and the Federation was without insurance. The ASF Insurance Convenor, a member of the Executive and several individuals commenced a search for a new Broker who had contacts with insurer's interested in the sporting / recreation industry. A Broker was found and the search commenced for an insurer. Every Australian insurer declined to offer the Federation insurance. The Broker commenced an overseas search and a policy was found for Public Liability however there were legal and coverage concerns with the policy and the search kept going for further insurers. Late in October the Broker was able to present the Federation's case again to an Australian insurer and after some negotiation an offer was made by Sportscover Australia, for a combined Public and Products Liability policy. The Council has an Insurance Contribution Policy whereby the Federation recoups the insurance premium from members and member organisations.
